Mediterranean Association for Ultrasound In Obstetrics and Gynecology

On july 4-5  2003 a friendly meeting has been organized by Juan Troyano-Luque in Tenerife (Spain). The aim was to discuss about the opportunity to establish an Association of the Mediterranean Countries with the task  to promote and develop the clinical use of Obstetrical and Gynecological diagnostic ultrasound and to increase exchanging experiences among the regions of the mediterranean area.

Founder persons were: JuanTroyanoLuque(Spain), GP:Mandruzzato(Italy), A.Kurjak(Croatia), A.Antsaklis(Greece), V.D’Addario(Italy) ,S.Kupesic(Croatia) and G.Monni(Italy). It was decided to have an annual Congress with site rotating in the different regions partecipating to the Association. At that time the list of Countries considered to be interested to the Association was: Portugal, France, Italy, Spain, Croatia , Slovenia, Serbia-Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Albania, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey. It is easy to observe that not all Countries listed above are facing the Mediterranean Sea but it has been decided to give more privilege to the common scientific and cultural interests than to the geographic location. The first Board was elected: President J.Troyano-Luque, Vice Presidents:A.Antsaklis, S.Kupesic,G.Monni; Secretary General L.Cortes-Martines, Deputy Secretary General V.D’Addario.

The first Congress organized by J.Troyano Luque took place in Zaragoza (Spain) on November 12-14 2004 jointed to the 13 rd National Congress of the Spanish Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynedology. It has been well attended. The second Congress was held in Rhodes (Greece),organized by A.Antasklis on June 17-19 2005 in association with the International Symposium in Hot Controversies in Perinatal Medicine. More than 200 delegates attended the Congress. In the year 2006 Dubrovnik (Croatia) hosted the 3rd Congress organized by Asim Kurjak and joined to the Ian Donald School of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. It was again a successful meeting.  The 4th Congress was organized by V.D’Addario in Bari (Italy) on 8-10 june 2007 again joined with the Ian Donald School Course. 250 delegates attended both the Congress and the Course. Invited Speakers and Chairmen, coming from 14 Countries contributed to the full success of the Meeting.

A Board meeting (click for details) took place and in this occasion 2 other Countries  asked to become Members: Romania and Qatar. They have been accepted according to the aforementioned criteria of overcoming the restrictive concept of the geographical location

The new Board of MED-UOG (click for details) was elected.

It was decided that an Advisory Board will be constructed including one representative for each Country not already present in the Executive Board. The next  5th Congress, joined with the Ian Donald School, will be organized by Momtaz in El Ein Alsokhna resort on the Red Sea in Egypt on May 15-17, 2008. A list of the venues for the following Congresses has been established: 2009 Lebanon (in case of unsafe situation it will be moved to Qatar), 2010 Turkey, 2011France, 2012 Israel and 2013 Portugal. MED-UOG is a young association but rapidly growing. Hoping to see many of you at the next Congresses.
